Stolen Surfboard in LBI

Copied and Pasted from the Localswell forum:

While surfing the break at the end of my street with a friend on Sunday, I had a 6'3 CI Black Beauty taken from the beach. It was my backup board I left there when I paddled out. I was in the lineup when a person came over the dunes and grabbed it. 58th Street in Brant Beach on LBI is not a spot that is frequented by visiting surfers. The board was in the middle of the beach away from the dune entrances. I honestly thought this was a joke. The board has a black and white stripped Da Kine pad on it and my name, Brian, is under the glass on the stringer as it was a custom. It has the black Curren airbrush band on the deck. If anyone has information as to who might have taken this board or sees it turn up, please email me or call Farias Surf & Sport at 609-494-7368. I would love to be able to find out who did this and will offer up any surfboard in my shop for the person who can help me get this board back. Thanks.

Virtual Tour of the Noreaster thus far

Jumped in the Cherokee to take a look around on Friday afternoon (11/13/09):

Looking South:

Drove to northside Casino Pier:

Then to southside Casino Pier:

Looking towards Funtown Pier:

Decided to run to Manaquan Inlet (good excuse to pick up some Surf Taco on the way home):

Manasquan Inlet, Point Pleasant Beach side:

Manasquan north jetty from PPB:

The drive to the Manasquan side of the inlet (lots of interesting flooding and debris (including a small boat halfway in the street) that I had planned on photo-ing on the way home, but the cops closed down the road while I was there and I had to detour up East Main Street):

The cove point (looking back towards Point Pleasant) and Dog Beach:

2009 Anything But Three East

2009 Anything But 3 East
Saturday September 26th (rain/no wave date Sept 27th)
Harvey Cedars, NJ (LBI)
Location - Hudson St.

The event all you right coasters have been waiting for. The second annual AB3E. Last years event was a huge success with local pro and backyard shapers and several visiting shapers from San Diego County CA.

This year we are holding the event in the fall, which is a great time of year to visit NJ. The water is warm, (typically board shorts or spring suit), the leaves are starting to turn colors, the summer crowds and lifeguards are gone, and the tropical swells are pumping.

This is a great event for surfers and surfboard shapers alike. A great day to demo many different designs and learn more about the craft of hand shaping surfboards. Bring out your favorite boards, show them off, and let others take them for a ride. It's all about trying different shapes and talking about board design.

Updates and more info can be found on the official blog
http://anythingbut3east.blogspot.com/

Pictures of last years event can be seen at:

http://forum.surfermag.com/forum/showflat.php?Cat=0&Number=1362874&page=0&fpart=1&vc=1

FYI- Wavejammer Wetsuit Swap Sept. 19-20

From the Wavejammer website:

Wetsuit Swap/Sale
Saturday & Sunday
September 19 & 20

It's coming! The often imitated, but never equaled, Original Wetsuit Swap/Sale at Wavejammer. If you’re buying, you don’t need anything to swap. It’s just a great way to pick up some used equipment at a fraction of its original cost! If you’re selling, here’s how it works:

* You drop off your used wetsuit(s) or swim fin(s), the sooner the better, before the sale (they should be dropped off by Friday September 18).
* You set the price -- (a non-negotiable price)
* If we sell your stuff, you get the entire price in the form of Wavejammer store credit, good on anything in the store (valid for 1 year).
* Suits being dropped off must be dry, clean and suitable for trying on.
* Any items not sold must be picked up by Sunday September 27.

A Pleasant Surprise (surf film)

From the website http://www.apleasantsurprisefilm.com/ :

A Pleasant Surprise offers an honest look at the talents of a select group of surfers who live in a truly special part of the United States. Almost three years in the making, this film documents a world of contrast as daily changes in weather and waves prove to be all part of a larger picture; thumping beach breaks, cold water, and quick tropical storms are just a fraction of what you will find. Brought to you in Super 16mm, A Pleasant Surprise allows for the full beauty of this region and its surfers to be realized.

Hyperflex Signs on as the Official Wetsuit Sponsor of the ESA

Scott Troxel, Brand Manager for Hyperflex Wetsuits states “This partnership is an unbelievable opportunity for Hyperflex Wetsuits. The ESA has long been a pillar of support for East Coast Surfing. The ESA has also been instrumental in the growth of surf businesses on the East Coast including retail and manufacturing. The ESA helped to make us (The East Coast) legitimate by showing the world we could raise competitive surf talent like Slater, the Hobgoods and the Lopezes. Also, since Hyperflex is one of the few surf manufacturers based on the east coast, we naturally share the similar interests and goals as the ESA. We couldn’t be any more stoked with this Right Coast partnership.”

"I am so stoked to be working with everyone at HyperFlex" remarked Debbie Hodges Executive Director of the Eastern Surfing Association, "HyperFlex makes one killer wetsuit and to have such a high level company on the East Coast to working with is absolutely awesome!"

offshore wind farm update

Of the five proposals...

... it appears the NJ State Board of Public Utilities has gone with the proposal by Offshore Energy (a venture between PSEG Renewable Generation and offshore wind developer Deepwater Wind) to build an offshore wind project up to 300 MW:

While Jeff Tittel of the NJ Sierra Club chapter has endorsed this effort towards renewable energy ("We see this as a great day for clean energy and for jobs and for the people of New Jersey"), Tom Dillingham of the American Littoral Society is on the record as stating, "I think putting 125 or so turbines in the ocean before completing environmental studies is putting the cart before the horse."

I am curious to find out what Surfrider Foundation thinks of this project, particularly the South NJ chapter, considering that the array (I've heard it is predicted to be expanded to approximately 900 turbines, but I need to fact-check that) could potentially diffuse swells from the southerly direction.

More to come as I learn more.
